Leadership Cortland Advisory Board - Distinguished Alumni Award 

The Leadership Cortland Advisory Board wish to annually recognize a Leadership Cortland alum who has distinguished themselves in their career and service to the community.  The award is presented to one outstanding individual at the yearly graduation dinner in June.

Any graduate of Leadership Cortland may be nominated for the award.

Nominees for the award must have some of the below attributes:

  • Achieved career related success

  • Active in their community

  • Strive for excellence, positive or sustainable impact on society

  • Demonstrated leadership (community/career): team efforts, volunteer roles, inspiring others, building community Support Leadership Cortland efforts


Provide a brief description of how the nominee displays the attributes listed under the criteria.  Include this information in your nomination letter.

Community Vitality
Leadership Cortland is designed to identify, educate and motivate a select group of Cortland County area citizens for positions of community leadership. In 250 words or less, please explain how the nominee has added to the vitality of Cortland County through actively engaging in community projects, volunteering, inspiring others and creating a sustainable impact on society.

Leadership Roles and Achievements
Graduates of Leadership Cortland develop the skills needed to confidently join boards and committees, create organizations that better our community and seek advancement opportunities within their organizations. In 250 words or less, please list board, committee or volunteer positions the nominee has held within the last five years as well as any achievements beyond the scope of their professional responsibilities.


  • Qualified nominations should include the following:

  • One nomination per individual or employer/organization

  • Nominations must be submitted by a member of the Leadership Cortland Advisory Group, alumni, current participants or employer/organization

  • Deadline for nominations must be postmarked by the first Friday in April

  • Nominations are confidential and reviewed by the Leadership Cortland Advisory Group

  • Submit by mail or email a nomination letter

    • Complete the questions highlighted in the narrative section

    • Include example of which criteria the nominee has met

    • Include the nominees, name, class year, and contact information

    • Include your name, company/organization's name, and contact information

  • Additional supporting documentation is encouraged and will greatly help the selection committee:

    • Resume

    • Letter of recommendation(s)

    • Press Release Article(s)

    • Other Awards

    • Additional evidence of achievement
